Hi, I'm
ELLE STOX.
I am a creative based in the lovely city of Sheffield, freelancing as a designer, producer and workshop facilitator.

I work predominately with young people and children. I am passionate about sharing and creating accessible opportunities within creative industries for young people. I grew up in a small ex-mining town and never thought too deeply about my career path. I knew I wanted to be creative but ultimately I had no idea what my options were to pursue this... I thought that ‘creative’ meant studying Fine Art. Other art & design pathways were not known.

I did go onto study Product Design at University by chance (which turned out to be a great option for me!).

But even once you have a degree, job titles are too often unclear (UX designer) and inaccessible, so how the HECK are we supposed to find it or know what we want to be? Or how do you even get there...

Young people need the opportunities to work with businesses to nail down their soft skills, as well as developing their specialist skillsets. Educators need to provide the freedom to explore and develop new ideas. Particularly collaborating with their community. I can help facilitate appropriate training, network connections and collaborative opportunities.

My most recent projects include: Designing the pilot 'Maker-in-Residence' curriculum for college students in Barnsley (UK) who worked as young producers for their local libraries; I produced a 32m long public banner from a kids poetry workshop (outside the Zest Centre);  I have run a A/VR coding club for kids at the Broomhall Centre and 3 other primary schools, and I programmed a series of workshops at Winn Gardens Estate and The Zest Centre.

“People and communities will always be involved in all parts of design and delivery. My DIY approach means we don't always have to know the defined output right at the start, but we can have space to co-create the final output together.”

I also helped develop programmes and fundraise for a local Alternative Provision Centre in Sheffield.

Elle is co-founder of community collective established for uniting under-represented groups in the music industry.

She graduated from BA Product Design in Sheffield, 2018, and worked with a local young-people’s art group before relocating to Bristol to work for a Bath-based design consultancy. Here she focused on trends, foresight and consumer research. She received press-recognition for a project brief she created, Suhka, which focuses on innovating femtech and wellness to become more accessible and inclusive. Just less than year later, she moved back to Sheffield to work more closely with the community and city she loves!

MORE... In her spare time she enjoys reading, listening, and researching. After university, she was not sure where this curosity could take her, especially with further education being financially a big NO. This led to the creation of her 'intend journal', where she explores her thoughts around community and design which later delved into exploring cities, culture and the public commons.

Other hobbies include music/DJing, trying to find perfect cinnamon bun reciepe and rambles!
